Well, what a hectic weekend we had at the Lane. Transfers going on all over the place with new faces coming in to strengthen the squad and a few old faces being released. The fact that Garry and Nick have drawn experience in shows the intent to stay in BSP.

For Saturdays match, The Stags were coming. Word had reached us at the club that the Mansfield fans coach was arriving early, so the stewards were in for 11.30am. All was quiet on my arrival so I donned my loominus jacket and radio and began my bar patrol. First stop was a cooked breakfast! Very nice it was too (for those who didn't realise, Yvonne at the club cooks a mean fry up, and its worth every penny). My wanderings then took me outside the bar and a quick check on the outside area. I wasn't ready for the sight that greeted me next.

Chairman Len Smith and Vice President Mick Syndercombe putting in a new window to the building to serve as a ticket office. With Len mixing mortar, and Mick slowly bricking himself into a corner, the phrase "bodge it and stick it" sprung to mind. The pair of them worked in perfect harmony... almost! Not only was Len providing cement but he was also trying to ram a drain rod to clear a blocked loo. Multi-tasking at its best. The loo stayed blocked so your faithful author went inside to investigate. A couple of minutes of prodding with a bent coat hanger had no effect. Only one thing for it then. With sleeves rolled up, the offending item was shifted and water flowed freely. And before you all shriek in horror, it was nothing more sinister than paper.

I may joke about the builders but it's just another example of how our club is run. Doubt you would see Roman erecting a brick structure at The Bridge! I wonder sometimes how many of the Borough fans realise just how much behind the scenes work is actually carried out by various volunteers. Sure saves paying for the tasks!

It was nice to see another good-sized crowd gathering for the game but we weren't prepared for the events of that afternoon. It has been well documented in the local press so I won't dwell on matters. It is a shame though that a very small minority drags the name of Eastbourne Borough and Mansfield for that matter into the headlines for the wrong reasons. I did wonder why the helicopter came over? After all, surely it's cheaper to pay at the turnstiles than launch that just to see the second half. A tad OTT!

With no midweek fixture to discuss, I have sat here typing with the Merseyside derby on in the background. Painful to say the least. Still could have been worse. I could have been a Lewes fan and been at Worthing! Say no more.

Up to Alty next and the chance to record another "double". After the blip on Saturday a victory would be nice on our travels. Oh yes, I will get there and bring you all some more ramblings in seven days' time.
