The final piece of a seafront cycle route is to be completed.

Brighton and Hove City Council is to close the last cycling gap along the coast by building a lane between Brighton Pier and marina.

Some 2,000 cyclists use the city’s seafront cycle lane every day between Hove Lagoon and Brighton Pier.

If approved, the work could start by the end of March and be completed by early July.

The project will be funded form a £570,000 pot, including £360,000 from the council’s local transport plan and £210,000 from Cycling England.

The new route is expected to be approved by Geoffrey Theobald, cabinet member for environment, on Thursday.
