Asda plans extension in Brighton

A supermarket is planning an extension.

Asda in Hollingbury, Brighton, is asking for customers views on plans to expand the building by 1,400sqm.

The company says the extension would create up to 60 full-time jobs in the supermarket.

The extension, which would take up part of the car park, would mean the branch could stock more non-food items and expand its clothing range.

Great! I welcome the idea, it gives me more options and accessability to products i might wish to purchase. How can this not be a great idea? I would love massive shops of certain retailers dotted around brighton, it would be fantastic to buy anything i need in the brighton area.
No doubt we will get the usual opposers who's life it won't really affect that much, but need the issue of opposing to fulfil their sometimes empty lives, mmmmmm come to think of it, b&h is crammed full of these people, Check out every (EVERY) planning application in b&h over the past 2 years or so.
Good on you asda, you'll get my support!!

I would like more crisp aisles, more aisles selling cheap booze and a delicatessen bar which sells nothing more delicate than take away curries and chinese meals. Oh and they can get rid of the Polish food section now the Poles are all going home and put some of those delicious rows of brightly coloured fizzy pop the store sells.
And as Asda is owned by Wal Mart...can it sell guns and bullets as it does in the States.
Oh...and don't forget to build more mother and toddler spaces along the front of the new extension so all the obese mothers can park as close to the store as possible to fill their 4X drives with bags of fat.

More jobs for the shelf stackers and trolleyboys.
Falmer and Patcham schools look no more for career choices.
Those who don't make the grade can pop next door for the cells of the police station.
Those even lower than the shelf stackers, trolleyboys and assorted burglars, muggers and drug dealers can just cross the road and work for the Argus.LOL.
If only I had thought of that 35 years ago I could have been Howard Blanks.Or maybe Danny Buckland.I might even have had a Pulitzer by now.PMSL

To be honest I think that the expansion in this climate is very good, and hopefully it will update this store nicely. My only concern is that it will be using parking spaces at the store. I know there is a bus route but getting to the Hollingbury store to use some of there 'unique' services would take me a couple of hours by public transport.

There is plenty of roof space in the building have they thought of a mezzaine floor like alot of the Tesco's have to expand, or putting the new store on stilts to save parking spaces.

You're wrong there

The Poles are making loads o money (tax free) so don't want these sorts of jobs - they're OK for british chavs and scum innit

What amazes me is that people actually don't realise there are cheaper shops than Asda if they could be bothered to walk anywhere.

Our local greengrocer and our local butcher are cheaper than Asda on like for like products and it is locally produced too. Quite often they have more variety too - our fishmonger definitely has more variety than you'd find in Asda and is likewise cheaper on like for like.

I literally can't imagine a scenario that would make me want to spend more money for less choice by going to Asda.

If my dear friend Lynn luvvie gets the old "spanish archer" from Tesco (which she probably will) she can slide into Asda with no fear.

OOOOOH!

That's fair enough pancaker, I bet the stuff you buy tastes better too. I think supermarkets are aimed at those of us who just can't be arsed to go around loads of different shops :)

I'm a little bit excited at the thought of a bigger asda if I'm honest!

My only concern would be how many parking spaces would be lost and it's jam-packed at Christmas and Bank Holidays.

Also, could they please look at the petrol area, please? Bad, dangerous design. I often fill up in the early hours and trip over the narrow dividers they have between the pumps - no idea why they need them as I've never seen them elsewhere.

Otherwise, more jobs is always a positive thing.

Brilliant move, lots more shelves to remain mostly empty if their brighton marina branch is anything to go by! What with Halal and Polish sections on display it really makes me happy to be part of this brave new utopia of ours
{ not}! America has a lot to be blamed for, us being one of their satelite states beig one of them, YANKS GO HOME!

why are you so sad?
what do you mean even lower than trolley boys and shelf stackers?
if you actually take a look, you will find that many people that work in supermarkets are young people looking for a bit of cash.would you rather they sponge off the goverment? and you paid for them to do nothing with your tax money?
didnt think so.also, if "low" people and "those who didnt make the grades" did not work in places like asda, how would you get your food and many other convieniences in one place? it would impact alot of people.they help the community alot. take a look at yourself you huge loser
