With 19 acts and three fixed stages, the second Fringe Street is set to be a monster.

“This year we are using Jubilee Street and Jubilee Square so we have been able to extend it,” says artistic director and former street performer Mikey Martins.

“Fringe Street is an invited professional street theatre programme. All the acts here have got nothing else to do with the Brighton Festival Fringe – they are all with us just for one day.”

Fringe Street will have three fixed stages in the Pavilion Gardens, Jubilee Square and outside the Theatre Royal, as well as static installations and roaming performers.

Among the must-sees are Mario Queen Of The Circus and The English Gents, both Olivier Award-winning acts from the West End’s cabaret phenomenon La Clique.

There will also be globe-trotting acts taking part, including Australian stuntman Ernesto The Magnifico, The Collector from the USA, New Zealand’s Boy With The Tape On His Face Sam Wills, and French magician Paul Henri Jeannel.

“Quite a lot of the programme this year is new,” says Mikey.

“A lot have never played in the UK before, so their first British audience will be in Brighton.”

There is an extensive programme of UK talent too, including Famos Bramos, The Great Dave, Songbird Of Trafalgar Square Lili La Scala, stilt walkers and even a pair of traffic wardens.

The Fringe Street line-up will be further expanded by the return of Fringe City for its last weekend in Brighton.

New Road has played host to the Fringe showcase over the past three weekends.

There will be a stage outside the Unitarian Church dedicated to performers taking part in the final weekend of the Fringe programme.

Among the confirmed acts on the Fringe City stage are Brighton bands Drookit Dogs and Educated Animals, stand-up poetry from Matt Panesh, excerpts from theatre show Epoch! and folk music from The Kinraid Band.

“A lot of the feedback from last year was that there wasn’t enough going on,” says Mikey.

“With Fringe Street we are trying to make a programme where every single thing is of a really high quality, so you won’t be disappointed if you don’t see everything.

“Last year was packed, so if the weather holds it should be a lot of fun."
