Images of proposed new Brighton school go on show

An exhibition of the designs for a new academy school will go on display today.

Artist's impressions of how the replacement for Falmer High School, off Lewes Road, Brighton, will be on show in the school's south building from 6pm to 8pm.

Organisers said they wanted give local residents a chance to see the plans before it tries to seek planning permission during the summer holidays.

Images show both the inside and outside of the proposed £28 million academy Representatives from the school, builders Kier, who have been contracted for the project, and Brighton and Hove City Council will be available at the exhibition.

The academy project team said it had been designed by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley to be energy efficient and as eco-friendly as possible.

Nick West, from Kier, said: "It’s a chance for us to hear people's first impressions and to address any concerns about the impact of the proposed work on the day to day life of the school. We’ll be demonstrating how this will be managed to ensure that students and staff are able to focus on learning and teaching."

The first phase of the new building is planned to be ready for staff and students to move into in September 2010.

Images and plans can be viewed online at www.proposedfalmeracademy.org.

It's not the most inspirational design - looks more like a shopping centre.
