Worthing family on trial accused of massive drugs plot

A drug-dealer masterminded his money-making business from behind bars and then gave the spoils to his mother, a jury has been told.

Jordan Moore, 26, allegedly issued orders for drugs to be collected and debts recovered.

He is also accused of organising drug runs to jails, including Lewes Prison, where packages were thrown over the walls to be picked up by inmates.

Moore, formerly of Cotswold Road, Durrington, is alleged to have ordered a violent attack on one associate, David James, after becoming angry when he refused to travel abroad to pick up a drug consignment.

Mr James suffered serious injuries when he was slashed with a Stanley knife after being lured to a street in Worthing in December 2007.

Moore is on trial at Hove Crown Court with six other defendants, including his girlfriend and mother.

Stephen Shay, prosecuting, told the jury Moore was the head of a drug dealing organisation.

He said: "From July 2004 through to August 2008 he directed and controlled a substantial and lucrative enterprise supplying both cocaine and cannabis.

"When in prison he continued to run the business, issuing instructions to his associates by mobile phone."

Mr Shay said Moore had pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply cocaine and cannabis and to possessing criminal property but he denied threatening to kill Mr James or ordering other defendants to carry out the attack.

Mr Shay described to the jury Moore's drug business, including how cocaine was allegedly collected from Essex, in deals worth more than £30,000, and delivered around Worthing.

He said debts were recovered by associates and a list of the detailed outstanding amounts totalled £130,000.

He said Moore's girlfriend, Carrie Ann McGee, was part of the conspiracy and her role was to oversee the collection of drug debts owed to the organisation.

Mr Shay said trips were ordered to jails in the area, including 16 journies to Lewes Prison, where drugs were thrown over the walls. On one occasion the drugs were hidden in a pair of socks.

Moore denies making threats to kill Mr James. He also denies, along with Jonathan Reeve, 28, of Jarvis Road, Arundel, Sam Hall, 23, of DuCane Road, London, and Rachel Morgan, 40, of St Richards Close, Goring, grievous bodily harm.

Reeve denies assault causing actual bodily harm, making threats to kill and blackmail in connection with allegations he enforced drug debts by threats, violence and intimidation.

Robert Standen, 23, of Canberra Road, Worthing, denies having an explosive substance, allegedly fireworks which had been modified or dismantled.

Reeve, Standen and McGee deny conspiracy to supply cocaine.

Morgan denies possessing cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamine with intent to supply.

McGee, of Cotswold Road, Worthing, and Moore's mother, Maxine Moore, 55, of Cheviot Road, Worthing, both deny possessing criminal property.

The prosecution allege both women must have known, or at least suspected, the money given to them by Jordan Moore was from the proceeds of drug dealing.

McGee is alleged to have spent more than £3,000 on two holidays to Disneyland Paris with Moore and two children. She is also alleged to have bought two Rolex watches, two diamond bracelets and spent more than £4,000 on cosmetic surgery.

Maxine Moore is alleged to have bought three Rolex watches, three cars, including a Mercedes, a kitchen and a £941 garden shed.

The trial continues.
