Sussex charity second deer rescue in two days

A Wildlife charity has rescued its second deer foal in two days.

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue Ambulance Service (WRAS) rescued its first deer in Haywards Heath on Sunday after it was found by a landowner.

Rescuer Trevor Weeks, of WRAS, said: “If you find a baby deer hidden in long grass or bushes please back off slowly and leave the little deer alone as mum is probably not far away and you could cause the baby to be abandoned if you are not careful and do not back away.

“Mum deer do not spent much time with their young babies as they do not want to attract foxes and other predators. Baby deer should not be picked up unless they are injured or wandering about in the open on short grassland or bridleway.

“It is always best to phone for advice first before touching a baby deer to ensure you are doing the right thing.”

The baby deer was eventually taken to St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire.

The wildlife rescuers though had to make another visit to the hospital late on Monday night after another dramatic deer rescue.

The second baby deer was found at Furners Green between Sheffield Park and Dane Hill at 11pm.

WRAS volunteer Kathy Martyn and Mr Weeks rescued the deer after it had become trapped on an electric fence.

The deer, which was less than a week old, had numerous injuries to its rear legs and had to be rushed to St Tiggywinkles for emergency treatment.

I thought deer had calves, not foals.
It wouldn't have taken much to Google that & check, would it?
