Firefighters have closed a road after two cars collided at a petrol station, ripping one of the pumps from the ground.
The accident happened at the Offham Services on the A275 near Lewes at about 8.10pm.
Highly-flammable petrol vapour is leaking from the pumps and it is feared that if this ignites, it could set light to the large tanks of fuel underneath the station's forecourt.
Garage attendant Gary Poyton said the Fiat Panda and Peugeot 206 crashed outside the station and then smashed into the pump.
He said firefighters from Lewes were waiting for experts to arrive and cap off the pump.
The road is currently closed in both directions while the scene is made safe.
