A LEAGUE table of the cheapest streets in Sussex has been published.
Hastings and St Leonards have long been seen as somewhere cheap to live.
But when comparison website Mouseprices.com published its property prices league table for Sussex, the proof was there in black and white.
The figures are based on Land Registry data covering sales dating back to April 2000.
They showed that Hastings and St Leonards dominate the league table of the cheapest places to buy a home in East Sussex.
Greeba Court in St Leonards topped the list with the average home costing just £63,300, closely followed by Castlehill Passage in Hastings where the average was £71,400.
A spokeswoman for Mouse prices.com said the results were affected by the number of flats in streets, which were obviously cheaper than houses.
She said: “It appears that many of the streets contain a high proportion of flats.
“As such, streets which predominantly consist of detached properties will tend to rank more highly than streets which predominantly consist of flats.
“Also, it’s worth noting that this list may include properties in streets which have not sold in normal free market conditions, such as ‘right to buy’ and compulsory purchase schemes or areas already subject to demolition and regeneration.”
In Brighton and Hove, Selsfield Drive, off Lewes Road, was the cheapest place to live, followed by Bread Street and Harmsworth Crescent in Hove.
In West Sussex, Worthing flats at the Guildbourne Centre were the cheapest, costing an average of £89,400.
Second was Lintot Square in Southwater near Horsham, followed by Adur Valley Court in Upper Beeding.
