Lewes takes delivery of new notes

A NEW batch of Lewes pound notes has entered circulation.

The town hit the headlines when it introduced its own currency last year.

The scheme aims to encourage spending in the area and has proved such a success that more notes have had to be ordered.

The £1, £5, £10 and £21 notes arrived on Friday. Five pence of every Lewes pound spent goes to the Live Lewes Fund to help good causes in the area. In the case of a £20 transaction this adds up to £1 – hence the £21 note.

Oliver Dudok van Heel of the Lewes Pound Group said: “The response to the trial has been overwhelming.

There is clearly an appetite within Lewes to extend the scheme and ensure Lewes is a thriving and sustainable community.”

Huh?

So by this logic there should be a £1.05 note, a £5.25 note and a £10.50, not £1, £5 and £10.

Meantime, I plan to introduce a kkj note; theres absolutely no benefit to you but I can assure you that 100% of what you spend will benefit someone.

Great stuff, fantastic news that the Lewes Pound has been so successful they're introducing more denominations. For anyone who cares where their money goes, these are a great encouragement to shop responsibly. Remember, every Lewes Pound spent is one that doesn't end up in a supermarket till.

I suggest that you check the list of international currencies - there you'll find several other countries that use the "pound", either formally or informally. Will you be demanding that these bow to British supremacy and change their currency too. And whilst you are at it could you get the Americans to stop the Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders (to name just a few) to stop copying the use of "dollar". You'll also note that "Monopoly" uses the £ (do not pass go do not collect £200). As this is toy money will you arrange for this crime to be stopped and action taken to prevent a recurrance.

I swapped all my Lewes Pounds for Lancing Lira and Worthing Dollars. I am now the richest! I am to go on a spending spree - all the horses shall be mine! When you hear a great thunder of galloping, be sure, this is Spooner with his many new horses!
