Three people were led to safety through smoke-filled corridors after an arson in a block of flats.
The drama started at Marlborough Court, The Drive, Hove, at 4.33pm today It came two days after a horrific tragedy in Camberwell, London, where five people including a new-born baby and her mother died when flames ripped through a block of flats.
No-one was seriously injured in the blaze.
A ground-floor flat was gutted. A woman and two males were treated for smoke inhalation outside the seven-storey building.
Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire last night.
Inspector Jason Cummings of Sussex Police said: “The potential danger is always there, as we have seen from the fire where six people were killed in Camberwell.
“Fortunately they managed to contain the fire within the flat.”
A 45-year-old man living in the flat where the fire started was arrested on suspicion of arson.
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.

This is a typical Argus. This "could have been like Camberwell" in the sense that a minor problem at Withdean "could have been like Hillsborough". Any incident "could have been" like another major incident - given similar circumstances!!! Also, as the Argus has seen fit to enclose the "could have been like Camberwell" in quotation marks, could it say who provided the quote? Other discrepancies - Camberwell was a tragedy where 6 people died, yet the story claims it is 5 then 6, then "The drama started at Marlborough Court, The Drive, Hove, at 4.33pm today" followed by "Firefighters were investigating the cause of the fire last night." Good work Sussex Fire Brigade!!!

The fact is, that in B&H tower blocks, low rise flats, etc. haven't got a second emergency exit (so much for Health&Safety), and we rely completely on the firefighters and the speed to reach the scene. Specially with the number of fire reported constantly, it's an accident waiting to happen!?
