New Asda to open in Lancing

A new Asda store will open next month.

The supermarket giant will open the £800,000, 11,500 sq ft shop in South Street, Lancing.

Store manager Jason Howell said: “We are delighted to be bringing Asda to Lancing and we hope that customers will respond positively to the new store.

The announcement was welcomed by Lancing Parish Council, who hope the store will attract visitors from neighbouring communities.

Fantastic - more food miles for goods in store and more journeys by car to stock up and then throw 1/3 away. The joys of supermarkets NOT.

Well this is replacing the Co-Op which was by the station so its not a new supermarket out and out.

Bit like the co-op on Newlands Road in Worthing will become a Morrisons.

Way too upmarket for Lancing. Could't they open a Lidl instead?
They have one of those in Kemp Town don't they Mike?

Not to mention the few hundred jobs that will be created... But lets not worry about that. Lets worry about "food miles".

Who cares? It's already been proven that the Aviation Industry is actually the SMALLEST contributor to global warming! It's the intensive farming that is ruining everything! And probably you leaving your computer on 24/7 for quick access to the Argus website just in case there is a story you can write some moronic comment on.

also, go and see how many phone chargers and other transformers are plugged in RIGHT NOW in your house. Then check to see if you TV/Freeview/Sky/Virg
in/BT box is plugged in. Oh, and what about your router? Is that left on over night?

It's actually good news for those of us who miss having a supermarket on the south side of the railway line (Co-op closed on the 10th July), especially as the level crossing is currently closed to traffic apparently until the end of August.

i THINK THE FACT THEY USE jORDAN SOMETIMES IN THEIR ADVERTISING SAYS IT ALL
adverising is aspiratinal so Jordan is upmarket ?

Personally I'm happy to drive my big 4x4 miles to get really cheap Olive oil from Lidls (despite their image quite a few things are very expensive)- Its amazing how many "decent" cars I park next to so these drongos who think if they insult Lidl shoppers make themselves appear better people are VERY sadly dillusional

i think its a really good idea for asda to be in lancing, there are low income families as many a place, there are also chavs in many a place too. there are also people in lancing and surrounding areas that have recently lost their jobs due to the closure of woolworths and co-op, so these people have now got the opportunity to be employed. Many people I know prefer Asda to many other leading supermarkets and find it hard to get there. the new asda in lancing is close to public transport, has a huge car park behind it and will also bring in business for other local retailers. I think that many of the remarks made previous are immature and really not to be taken notice of as these are just petty minded from bored people who can find nothing better to do than to criticize something that is positive. I am a resident of lancing and have been for many years. I am not a chav, or a teenage pregnant mother pushing a pram, I am not a trouble maker either but I do support the decision to have asda here in this small village

I don't think any of the above comments above are really relevant to the subject. As a resident in Lancing i can tell you that this new supermarket is very well anticipated and long overdue. for years we have had to put up with two of the most expensive supermarkets (Co-op and Somerfield) who do not offer a lot of choice. It will also bring a lot more employement and trade to Lancing.
