New move to revive King Alfred in Hove

An automated phone system is being installed in the latest move to revive the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

Callers to the sports centre, in Kingsway, Hove, will be able to access information about opening times and activities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

They will also be able to redirect to the centre's staff and accounts department.

The system, due to start operating this week, is part of Brighton and Hove City Council's plans to invest in the centre, which had been under-maintained while plans were in place for a now-scrapped redevelopment. The number will be 01273 290290.

that will help, won't it!!!! it needs replacing with a state of the art leisure centre, WITHOUT housing, just like the Triangle.

Doing something to improve the cleanliness of the changing area is more likely to attract customers than an automated phone system. And what about all the pervy peepholes in the changing booths?

Good to see our coucil tax money going to such good use. I bet they paid a fortune for some 20 year old system too.

What's the next cutting edge investment? New vending machines? Adverts on buses?

Why not actually reduce the prices then at least we can benefit somehow.

why cant we encourage a visitor attraction as opposed to flats here to pay for a revamp of the leisure centre. surely a hove pavilion or hove tate modern / museum, hotel or conference centre or move the i 360 idea here. the proceeds could pay for a state of the art money spinning leisure centre.

I agree but was not the plans for the triangle originally much grander, but they ran out of money?

The city should and must redevelope the KA as a worthy sports centre, but it does have a chequered history, remember the flumes getting installed, I do, I worked on them all over the week end prior to opening to correct some last minute commissioning faults, got bumped for my troubles as the company that installed them went bust on opening day

Yes, a sports centre without housing is what we want.
It's not the council's land to sell off anyway, it's the council taxpayers' land and we should all stand firm on this.
No to flats.

Echoing the sentiments of the comments above: How about employing a couple more cleaners that actually clean things up? That would be an amazing step forward for that place.

Peepholes were thankfully sorted a year ago.

Agree with cleanliness even though its always perfect first thing: Speaking to someone recently who went there for a early evening swim for the first time. They got only as far as the changing room before immediately returning and asking for their money back.

No telephone system is going to entice them back.

This has been going on far to long. Change the Management!

The phone system is part of providing a better service, so let's not get too critical about it.
