Police search after girl goes missing in Worthing

Police carried out an “extensive” search after a nine-year-old girl went missing.

The girl, who has not been named, became separated from her mother at about 1.30pm on Saturday in Montague Street, Worthing.

Officers and Police Community Support Officers from Sussex Police searched the area.

A search was also carried out along the seafront. At one stage 15 officers were looking for the girl.

The search was called off around 2.45pm when the girl returned home.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “There was quite an extensive search but she returned home safe and well.”

Whilst the officers and PCSOs did their normal excellent service, we must also thank all the Town Wardens and members of Worthing Shopwatch who were mobilised to search retail premises, streets, parks and the seafront in the hunt for this missing girl.
