This is the moment that high-flying Steve Elkins' dreams crashed back to earth.
The daredevil was told by judges that his record-breaking flight stopped just 14cm short of the 100m target at last weekend's Worthing Birdman Competition.
That decision also meant that he just missed out on the £30,000 jackpot prize.
But Mr Elkins appealed the decision and now the organisers have referred it to their insurance company for the final say-so.
Shot from about 75m beyond the 100m mark by Hot Dog Media, the footage shows a lengthened perspective of the splash-down but Mr Elkins is adamant that he went the distance.
And according to the rules, he may be right. They state: "The Aviator will be deemed to cease to fly when they stop moving forward AND have any significant part of their legs or body immersed in the water."
