Brighton Pride cash appeal is floundering

An appeal to save Pride is stuttering just weeks after it was launched.

Last month organisers of the Brighton and Hove event started the fundraising campaign after identifying a potential financial deficit of £50,000.

But five weeks later less than 10% of the total needed, just £4,519.16, has been raised, sparking fears that Pride will be seriously scaled back next year.

With only 15 weeks until the end of the year, the charity must now raise more than £3,000 a week to reach their target.

The appeal had got off to a promising start with members of the community rallying together to raise more than £1,000 in under a week.

Judith Manson, Pride’s fundraising and communications manager, said the appeal had now “slowed down”.

She added: “It is a time of year when Pride isn’t necessarily at the top of people’s minds but there is a lot of good will out there.

A lot of businesses are going to be holding events but we still need people to go online and give donations."

However she emphasised that Pride does not owe any contractors money.

There are also a number of fundraising events in the pipeline.
