Shoreham Beach tipped as next millionaires' playground

Shoreham Beach is being tipped as a future rival to a famous millionaires’ playground.

Estate agents are comparing the area to Sandbanks, the Dorset peninsula which is renowned as one of the most expensive places to live on the planet.

Properties on the exclusive dune near Poole cost famous sportsmen and entrepreneurs up to £10,000 a square metre.

But Sussex housing experts have said the foreshore near the mouth of the River Adur is becoming an alternative for footballers and wealthy businessmen seeking a seaside home.

Andrea Harding, of international estate agents Hamptons, said the "big money" was starting to move to Shoreham.

I think the estate agents are on something.... seriously have they ever spent a week there in the summer or the winter for that matter? No didn't think so.

Hope they love the smell of seaweed...

not my idea of fun either. only one way in and out, and all the crap weather in the winter.

Compare and contrast - Poole in Dorset and Shoreham Beach.
Whoever thinks Shoreham bears even a passing resemblance to Poole needs to give their guide dog more exercise.
This is yet another FREE ADVERT for estate agents that have property for sale on Shoreham beach.
If all the footballers in the country want to go and live there, let them.
At least then we would know where all those with more money than sense are living, and could give them a wide berth.

Dear Tim Ridgeway.

Estate agents have one objective - to ramp house prices as high as possible. If this means comparing Shoreham Beach to Marin County they will! It doesn't mean we have to take them seriously. Back to journalism school...

Who gives a f*** about millionaires and celebs?

When I saw the headline I thought "I bet this has something to do with estate agents".

.... and sure enough it has. They just make the stuff up, surely?

Makes a change from stories about how a crappy semi owned by a Z-list celeb is worth £3m etc. etc. especially while the housing market is still on its knees (and will be for years to come)

I've lived on shoreham beach for 30 odd years (since i was a kid) it's not much fun in winter, there is only one way off and on , which can be a pain. But on the other hand summer time is great

I would suggest that the following letters are unnecessary in the headline "...ped as next millionaires' playground"

This is the biggest lot of tosh I have ever read in The Argus and has this estate agent been to Shoreham.
It's a working port and the town is rough and the views of mud flats and the stinking seaweed and algae on the flats is enough to drive the devil out.
Sandbanks however, has some beautiful views which bear no resemblance to stinking Shoreham-by-****.
Utter, utter nonsense.

I believe this is Estate Agent level Journalism.

The article may be nonsense but so are your comments about 'stinking Shoreham-by-****'. It is a wonderful place to live and has some of the best houses in Sussex. You obviously have never been to Shoreham for forty years or so. Shoreham Beach is not quite so good as North Shoreham but is still much better than most of Brighton & Hove's houses.

Except for the FACT they are in Shoreham-by-Sea so boring they had to tell you it was near the sea just to get people to visit

Shoreham Beach or Brighton or Hove.........hmmmm not much in it for me, Shoreham Beach rocks and is a great place to live. The house prices are on the up and there are a number of million plus houses...as there are everywhere else during these times of over inflation. It has a great community and is just far enough to distance itself from the slums of Brighton and Hove making it a more desirable place to live. ;0)

I didn't say B&H houses were better than Shoreham-by-****, I said comparing Sandbanks with Shoreham was utter tosh.
The Argus features serious, violent crime in Shoreham every week painting a bleak picture indeed for such a small town.

I agree that this article is rubbish, but I think you are being very unfair on Shoreham Beach and Shoreham as a whole. I used to live there (for 7 years) and it is a really lovely place to live. It has it's downsides as everywhere does. I honestly never saw any trouble in the whole time I lived there. Have you ever lived there? Or even spent any length of time there? I am guessing the answer is no!

You need to be a millionaire to pay for the parking, although it's not as bad as Worthing!
