The council boss responsible for the charging fiasco at Eastbourne's 2008 Airbourne air show has been made redundant.

Norman Kinnish is one of five senior staff at Eastbourne Borough Council who will leave their jobs through a combination of cost-cutting redundancies and retirements.

The tourism boss had overseen the controversial introduction of charging entry for Airbourne, the town's main tourist event, which saw crowds boycott the show.

The council made a loss of tens of thousands of pounds, when it had budgetted to make a £183,000 profit.

Mr Kinnish resisted calls for his resignation at the time but left yesterday when his post was abolished.

The council has moved from a system of 11 directors and assistant directors to a new management team with just three senior heads of departments.
