Death of Hastings heroin coma woman

A young woman who slipped into a heroin-induced coma more than eight years ago has died.

Amy Pickard, 25, died in Hastings. She was 17 when she slipped into a coma in 2001.

Amy suffered severe brain damage after experimenting with the drug for the first time.

Her mother Thelma posed for heart-breaking pictures at her daughter's hospital bedside.

In December 2007, it was reported she was emerging from the coma after taking a drug called Zolpidem.

An East Sussex coroner's officer confirmed today that Amy died on October 10.

Leave your tributes to Amy and messages of support to her mother Thelma below.

Very sad news indeed.

Sad enough to warrant The Argus covering it when it actually happened instead of waiting until they read it elsewhere...

Thoughts go out to Thelma.

Im not sure about asking for tributes for someone who died because they took heroin. Also the use of the word 'experimenting' sounds like its trying to make it sound it was a reasonable thing to do. Its a tragedy for a young life to be thrown away like this, but the lesson should be it is very stupid to use heroin, it may likely kill you at worst, give you a life of misery at least.

Dont show this in soft focus Argus.

A typically nasty comment from cheez. This young girl died. She didn't intend that to happen.

Its not a nasty coment at all. She didnt intend to die, but she did intend to take heroin.

it's not just that it was heroin she took for the first time, it could have been ecstasy or coke but it may have been the quality or impurity of the drug that caused this tragic loss. young people are going to experiment with drugs, that's just how it is these days but some of these drugs are cut with potentially harmful substances. this is a tragic accident and my sympathies go out to the mother and family.

Tragedy it is,but it would have been a state sponsored tragedy if the legalise narcotics brigade had their way.In fact, had it been up to these fools, she'd probably have been dead by the time she was 17.

look death or no death, everybody knows the facts, dabble in drugs and you pay a price,, no ifs no buts no sob stories, the facts are clear to all.. they inflict misery and nothing less, ok its tragic for this young lady course it is but make no mistake.. she would have been well aware of what she was dabbling in !!!
