A man is due in court in connection with the brutal murder of a homeless man in Brighton.

Michael Bishop was seized by police today as he returned to the UK after being deported from Cyprus, where he had been stopped on suspicion of illegal entry to the northern part of the island.

Detectives from Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch, with an arrest warrant issued by Brighton Magistrates, arrested Bishop as he arrived at Stansted Airport this morning. He was being interviewed by detectives in Brighton this afternoon.

He will appear before Brighton Magistrates Court in Edward Street tomorrow morning, to answer an arrest warrant in relation to the murder of Stuart Slade. Sussex Police tonight said he was expected to be charged with the stabbing.

Mr Slade was found stabbed in Hampton Place, off Western Road, by passers by in the early hours of December 30 last year.

He had been repeatedly stabbed in the chest.
