Lancing party ends in brawl after gatecrashers clashed with revellers

A party descended into violence when a carload of gatecrashers clashed with revellers.

A golf club and a car wheelbrace were believed to be used as weapons in fighting in Eighth Avenue, Lancing.

Five men were injured and six arrested after the clash at about 12.15am on Saturday.

Police said the trouble started when a group of men arrived uninvited by car at a house where a Halloween party was taking place.

The partygoers confronted the group and came under attack at the front of the house.

The victims included one 22-year-old from Brighton, a 20-year-old from Littlehampton, and two 22-year-olds and a 19-year-old from Lancing.

They were all taken to hospital where some needed stitches for their wounds.

One had suffered a gash to the back of the head which witnesses said was caused by a blow from a golf club.

Five men aged 21 and one aged 22, all from Lancing, were arrested on suspicion of crimes including attempted grievous bodily harm and released on bail.

Detective Inspector Rob Walker of Sussex Police said: “This was a really nasty series of assaults that could have ended up with someone being very seriously or permanently injured.

“We are working with a number of witnesses and would ask anyone with information to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Adur CID on 0845 6070999 quoting serial 52 of October 31.
