Two children threatened a boy with a kitchen knife, beat him up and made off with his mobile phone.

The 13-year-old victim was with two boys of the same age when they set upon him in an alleyway in the Mash Barn area of Lancing.

He could not remember exactly where it happened.

Police were called when he arrived at a friend’s house in Shadwells Road covered in blood.

The boy said his attackers had beaten him up before pulling out a kitchen knife and threatening him.

His mobile phone was stolen in the attack, which took place on Friday night at about 7.40pm.

The boy was described as traumatised and needed treatment at Worthing Hospital.

Police arrested two 13-year-old boys on suspicion of robbery. They have been released on bail while further inquries are made.

Detective Inspector Rob Walker of Sussex Police said the incident was isolated and did not mean there is any greater risk to the safety of people in the area.

He said: “This is not a stranger-style incident. They were all known to each other.

“It is certainly a serious assault and it is being treated as such by police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
