Bendy buses plan for Brighton and Hove gathers speed

Work to bring controversial bendy buses to the city is continuing.

Managing director Roger French said work to reconfigure the interior of the buses to suit the company's needs is ongoing at its Lewes Road garage.

The controversial buses, which were thrown out of London by Tory mayor Boris Johnson, could be introduced to the roads of Brighton and Hove after a successful trial of one of the articulated vehicles last month.

The company carried out a trial run on the popular number 25 university route to gauge passenger reaction and find out how the bus would work logistically.

Mr French has admitted there are several issues that needed to be resolved before the bendy buses made it on to city bus routes including finding space for them at the company's depots.

The possible introduction of the buses has polarised opinion.

A recent survey on this website revealed that 58% of people are against the buses being introduced in the city while 42% are in favour.

Some city cyclists are also unhappy with the prospect of the bendy bus.
