Seven burglaries target elderly

Police have increased patrols after a spate of burglaries targeting residential homes for the elderly.

The “high visibility patrols” are aimed at reassuring residents in the area after seven burglaries took place on Thursday at around 4am.

Two people were arrested with the help of Sussex Police and are currently in custody in Surrey.

Two burglaries took place at Felwater Court, in East Grinstead, two at Felbridge Court and three at Standen Court, all off the A22.

It is thought the offences are linked to a number of burglaries on the same night in a small geographical area in Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Inspector Paul Scott from East Grinstead said: "I want to reassure those who live in the area of the burglaries. This was an isolated series, and arrests were made within half an hour of the first incident being reported to us.

“We are providing high visibility patrols in the area and I urge anyone who would like crime prevention advice to contact me on 0845 60 70 999."
