The best thing to have happened to the Lewes Road is the community garden that blossomed on the site of a derelict petrol station.

Now it is to be destroyed, to make way for a quite unique alternative – a Tesco.

Not important that there is a perfectly good Co-op next door, and a wonderful Turkish food shop just 50 yards away.

If there was a collective word for dumb and spineless, that would describe the council for bowing down to the money men and allowing this development to take place.

If we wanted to live in a bland desert we would move to Crawley or one of the final resting places along the coast.

We love Brighton because it is bubbly, colourful and diverse. Please do not allow this travesty to take place.
