A motorcyclist was seriously injured after he hit metal railings.
It is thought the driver had swerved to avoid a car pulling out of Victoria Road into Montpelier Road in Brighton when the accident happened.
Emergency services were called to the incident, , opposite Brighton and Hove High School for Girls, at about 3pm on Saturday.
A 48-year-old man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service with serious leg injuries.
He was still being treated yesterday evening.
The road was temporarily closed by police while the bike wreck was examined but all roads were reopened at around 4.20pm.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “It was a serious accident that is now being investigated by Hove Road Policing Unit.”
Any witnesses should call 0845 6070999.
