A man fell to his death from Eastbourne Pier yesterday.

The man, in his 60s, was seen to fall from the pier at about 2pm.

Eastbourne RNLI crews pulled the man from the sea before paramedics tried to resuscitate him on the beach.

He was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital by South East Coast Ambulance crews where he was pronounced dead.

A spokesman for Eastbourne RNLI said: “Dover Coastguard requested the inshore lifeboat launch to the report of a person having jumped into the sea from Eastbourne Pier.

“Once on scene the casualty was found to be unconscious.

The crew then transferred the person to the beach where an ambulance was waiting.”
