This is no tall tale – a giant 48ft Christmas tree is going to be cemented into the ground on Brighton’s Palace Pier.
A team of modern-day elves hauled the enormous tree on to the pier this week ready to sink it into an 18-inch hole and a ton and a half of cement to hold it in place.
Maintenance manager at the Pier, John Kincaid, said: “We never know what we’re getting before it arrives, but this is the biggest one we’ve ever had. We’ve got a cherry picker ready to cover it in hundreds of lights on Monday.
“It will be both cemented into a giant pot in the forecourt of the pier and have steel wire attaching it to the pier roof.
“We want it to sway slightly in the wind but we certainly don't want the heavy winds we had last
