Sussex weather chaos: Gatwick flights affected

Budget airline easyJet said the hangover from yesterday's bad weather would see scores of flights cancelled from Luton, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports this morning.

British Airways cancelled all UK and European flights departing after 7pm yesterday, and was "strongly" advising passengers to check their flight status before setting off today.

Staff at Gatwick were working to clear a backlog after reopening the runway last night.

Passengers are advised to check Gatwick's website before travelling.

It should be noted, despite it being a college and not a school, that BHASVIC is also shut today.

the country closes down again because of snow?
OR is it know-alls who think they can be sued if someone slips and has an accident on the way to school!
Using that logic the schools would never be open

You are quite correct - I lived in Geneva for 2 years and the city closed down for almost 3 months during the "extreme weather" of the winter ;-)

probably because more people are contacting Heart FM - more people probably listen to radio (tends to be more immediate, and still greater access to). More telling is that Heart FM always tends to have more info then even BBC Sussex radio, yet council says listen to Sussex radio (guess that's who they tell - bit out of touch maybe B&H council)

and however much people go and ask they can't force people to tell them.

My partner tried to get to work today. He couldnt even get out of our road and I had to dig him out of the snow drift he had slid into. We had a text from school to say that it is closed today, not one mentioned in the list. It is on the Downs and has been cut off. It is all very well for people to say get a grip and get on with things, but we dont have snow chains, winter tyres or anything like that. I did have time off school when it snowed as we lived miles away and I am sure that those people who say that they never had time off when they were kids coz of the snow are not telling the truth. I know that my parents did!

Three cars attempted to drive up our road. First one stalled and had to be pushed by people in car behind. They got back in car and promptly slid into the car they were pushing. Third car was Land Rover. He had no difficulties.

As another has said, we do not expect this sort of weather. My kids are teenagers and until February this year had never experienced 'real snow'.

Unless you have a car which can handle this weather - stay at home. There's always tomorrow.

Cat Machine I agree - the Same Sky website has absolutely nothing on there! It's a shame - this event would have been beautiful. And Rostrum I was wondering how the day could all of a sudden become the longest day of the year when the sun sets at 3pm! :)

Nevermind, Happy Christmas everyone!

surely it marks the longest night of the year (and not the longest day, which would be the summer solstice in june)?
