Sussex weather chaos: travel disruption

Train services were disrupted again today because of the icy weather conditions.

Southern is operating a revised timetable with more details on the company's website at www.southernrailway.com

Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey today and check the latest information on train services before leaving home.

The six Brighton to Victoria Gatwick Express extension services have been cancelled this morning.

Southern services between Brighton and London Victoria will depart every hour at xx49 from Brighton and xx36 from Victoria. These trains will call at Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport in both directions (not calling at Clapham Junction).

Brighton Bus Company has announced that all bus services have been suspended but I have seen at least ten buses picking up passengers from the bus stop opposite my residence.
What is going on!

London Taxis refusing to travel to the suburbs, leaving the emergency services to transport slightly drunk people to hospital, as they were unable to walk great distances safely.

The 04.00 Victoria to Brighton train didn't get into London until 04.03 this morning!

Left about 10 mins late and had a good journey despite previous train being 3 hours earlier... tracks well maintained for snow conditions. Very pleased with Southern; congratulations.

Brighton Taxis were refusing to go off main roads.. lazy buggers! They dropped you NEAR your road and made you walk.... and only a few taxis operating at 6am... we need many more taxis... forget regulating their numbers please!

Number 7 bus appeared on the bus stop board as 4 minutes.... never appeared in 20 minutes.

Brighton/London Results =

SouthernRailways 1 - Brighton & Hove Buses 0

Brighton Taxis 0 =LondonTaxis 0

Meanwhile, us emergency workers have to carry on regardless.

Rita GROW UP. It's not lazy if taxi drivers don't drive off main roads it's good sense, it's DANGEROUS if they do. I wouldn't drive my car out of my road this morning as I would slide right down the hill. Why should I expect a taxi to do it? Anyway, instead of denigrating taxi drivers why not find a car and operate your own comunity taxi service?

What is going on? Just the normal chaos when the UK gets a bit of snow.
Security word inch-snow.

As a newly retired bloke who spent 40 of his working years on the South East roads, it was wonderful this morning to sit in bed with a cuppa and watch the TV reports coming in. Recommended!

Got stuck at Haywards Heath last night on the 23.17 Victoria-Worthing,se
rvice...We were about the 3rd train behind the train that failed near Clayton Tunnel (probably not entirely fault of snow as "overheated engine" was also given as cause)... Stuck for one and a half hours at HH stn, then told to board train to B'ton via Lewes on other platform, which of course was packed full of people.I think they switched the "up" track to a "down" track, as the driver had to change ends halfway etc) Got to B'ton in c20 mins. Then long walk to Hove from B'ton stn as no buses/taxis etc, all suspended.
Got hit by snowball on the way too! Palmeira Sq was a winter wonderland.. Home, finally at nearly 3am...

why the THREE posts and are you the same person who is always doing it but using different names ?
We in West Sussex are fine as west sussex county council issued a press release stating that they were very efficient (unlike last year eh guys?) and there would be NO issues on any road right through the winter

Congratulations once again it snows and Moulsecoomb gets cut off, I expect it on day one but we are going into the fourth day and still the bus route has not been cleared. I thought at one time bus routes took priority but in today’s climate it appears we will get what they want not what we need.

With the worries about Global Cooling(?) would it be possible to install some salt/grit bins on some of the residential roads in the hilly area of Brighton?
We / the local residents could then just help outselves and do the area outside our own homes.
I think this may be necessary as the Councils ******* useless only lining their pockets and giving millions to useless people when they resign!
