Police officers had regular meetings in the flat next to where a woman lay dead in her home.

Sussex Police neighbourhood police officers made fortnightly visits to the flat directly below where Lynn Warman's body was discovered at 50b Shelby Road, Worthing, on Wednesday morning.

Detectives believe Ms Warman, 37, had been dead for several months when a relative of the man she lived with called the police.

Her body was so badly decomposed detectives could not immediately identify her or how exactly she died.

Housing association Southern, which owns several properties in the street, has allowed community groups and the neighbourhood policing team to use flat 50a for meetings since February 2007.

A man in his 50s, who is thought to have lived with Ms Warman, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of Wednesday morning and questioned but has been released on bail until February 10 while detectives continue their investigation.

A post-mortem was carried out on Ms Warman’s remains on Wednesday but this did not reveal how and why she died.

Toxicology tests are now being carried out in the hope they will identify what killed her.
