Bodybuilder convicted of nightclub murder of Eastbourne teenager

A bodybuilder who killed a teenager he believed was chatting up his girlfriend at a nightclub has been convicted of murder.

Nicholas Sitko, 24, broke down in tears when the jury announced its verdict after a trial at Lewes Crown Court.

He admitted manslaughter but denied murder.

Sitko had drunk seven pints and two sambucas before he violently attacked Ben Lund, 19 at the Funktion Rooms in Eastbourne last July.

The court heard how Lund lay in a pool of blood after being headbutted and repeatedly punched.

Mr Lund, a window cleaner of York Road, Eastbourne, was described in court as a happy man liked by everyone.

There were emotional scenes in the court room, which was packed with relatives and friends of the two men, when the verdict was returned.

Sitko, who faces a mandatory life sentence, will be sentenced on Friday.

A sad loss to the victims family-Can we hope for a sentence that fits the crime, for once. No, i doubt it. The quicker the justice systems realises the reason for prison over-crowding is the stupidly light sentences that criminals receive, the better for everybody else. The sentence must fit the crime, end of story!

It depends on which criminals. If the truth-ignoring politicians would make drugs legal again, the prisons would have more space for real criminals like this murderer.
.
I get fed up reading about small time drug "pushers" being sent to prison, with a flee in their ear from some holier-than-thou judge telling them that they have "ruined lives".

this is not story about your issues with the government, police or drug dealers.

this is a story about a kid who lost his life to a thug.

a terrible sham for both families.this could happen any night in any sussex town.i personely now mr sitko and believe he deeply regrets that night. as for the bodybuilder, this is utter tosh. his father and fathers brother were both well built but the last time i saw nick he looked nothing like a bodybuilder still this is a tradegy to all concerned and and a waste of two young lives.

What is all this about somebody "chatting up" somebody else's girlfriend? So what if somebody is doing so?

How can a relationship be meaningful if it precludes talking with others? Ipso facto, it is not a relationship, it is a prison.

So saying, the disgusting Mr Sitko can reflect upon this while spending however many years he will now have in such a place in his own company.

He has robbed somebody of the joy of waking up to each dawn's possibilities. He should think of that whenever he gets a glimpse of the Sun. He should look up at that sky and think of the human frame he has caused to moulder in the ground, of what is happening to it from moment to moment. That is what he did. He stopped a life.

When were you appointed to be forum policeman?
.
If you don't like my comments, too bad. Don't read them. If the prisons were not so full of small-time drug dealers, there would be more space to keep dangerous killers inside for longer. I had to point that out to you as you are obviously too stupid to understand it otherwise.

He'll be out in about 10 years, and maybe sooner. Prisons cost a lot of money to run, and they are mostly full of very small time crooks. The sentencing "policy" means that non-violent offenders often serve a considerable length of time in prison compared with actually violent and dangerous people like this man.

The word you are looking for is re-legalisation. They used to be legal and there was very little drugs-related crime. Churchill took cocaine pills when he had a sore throat. It didn't do him any harm.
.
It is people like you, with their brains sucked out by stupidity, who are responsible for the growth in crime since drugs were made illegal.

You obviously know nothing about steroids, if you use steroids and don't do the training you will just get fat, they aren't the magic people think they are, however I think 15 years ain't long enough, he should be inside till he's dead.

This is from 2008. So maybe he's been violent before.

Bailed
A 23-YEAR-OLD who is alleged to have headbutted a man will have his case heard at crown court.
Nicholas Sitko, of Mendip Avenue, is claimed to have committed the offence after a group of people were asked to leave the wine bar Slaters in Bolton Road.
He is alleged to have headbutted a man and punched people in his vicinity, leading to him being charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has pleaded not guilty to both charges and elected to have his trial heard at crown court.
The next hearing will take place on May 7.
Sitko received unconditional bail

bibble - I agree with you on drug re/legalisation, freeing up prisons, enabling regulation, monitoring, etc, but that's a different day's discussion, and for the record I've never been near any.

It's hardly as if prisons are the ultimate solution to crime, the reoffending rate will show you that, but a custodial sentence is needed for someone who is liable to murder when drunk, if only to keep them away from the population.

bosshog - all reference to him I have come across has been as a 'bodybuilder', maybe to seem his sentence seem deserved to the uninformed masses?

To view other peoples comments objectively is obviously difficult for a few of the Argus bloggers. I enjoy reading others view points on the news items & may not always agree with all of the other commenters, but everybody has a right to their opinions, as you quite rightly point out. If people are happy to spend hours slagging each other off then who am i to disagree. Rather be engaged doing something else though.
