Police investigate suspicious Seaford death after blood drips lead to body

Blood dripping through a ceiling has led to the discovery of a body.

A police investigation is under way after drops of blood were seen seeping through an office ceiling at lunchtime today.

Workers initially dismissed the red liquid oozing through the ceiling as nothing to worry about before becoming concerned when they could not rouse the occupants of the flat above them.

The gruesome discovery of the blood-covered corpse was made by police after they forced their way into the home above Plans and Architectural Design Shop in Sutton Park Road, Seaford.

The flat was believed to have been owned by the Hayder family who run the neighbouring restaurant The Moon of India.

The body has yet to be identified and the cause of death is not known. A post-mortem is yet to be held.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Hibbert, of Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch, who is leading the investigation, said: "In order to preserve as much evidence as possible, enquiries are being carried out on the basis that the death as suspicious.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area over the weekend who saw anything suspicious or has any information to come forward.

"The restaurant is closed while the investigation continues. We need to identify this man so we can ensure that next of kin are informed and provide them with the necessary support as the investigation progresses."

Chief Inspector Natalie Carron, district commander for Lewes, said: "This is a very unusual incident for Seaford and we are working closely with the investigating team to identify anything that may have happened out of unusual that may assist them with their enquiries.

"If any member of the community has information then they need to let us know. They will not be wasting our time.

"There are additional patrols around the area and we will keep the community updated as the investigation progresses."

Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Scotsford or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Without giving too much away, this brings to mind Tess of the d'Urbervilles.

Yes it's the kind of thing that happens all the time where I work, in fact it's a nice talking point at the water cooler.

Another superb post! Have you ever thought of going on stage as a comedian?

Obviously Brighton Bear hasn't read Thomas Hardy..... too many sarcastic comments to make no time for literature.

A wonderful, kind man was taken from us, and you insensitive, thoughtless people are making humor from it.
I dearly hope none of his family or other friends read this.
You are disgusting.

Totally agree, ESB. But for some reason the powers that be have chosen to remove my post berating these insensitivites (perhaps an email to explain why?), while allowing the hurtful and possibly covertly racist comments to remain. We didn't see this kind of callousness last week...

I think the Argus have removed "possibly covertly racist comments". Yes, it is sad that a man has lost his life. I read & replied to your comment last night, this has also been removed. You should not have included the end of your sentence, which is now dots, very insensitive.

You must think clearly before you post something on a very sensitive subject.

Know what you're saying Bear and I was certainly never trying to be insensitive, quite the opposite as was trying to challenge what I thought was an unfair comment. I don't mind a difference of opinions and am happy to engage in intelligent debate, but it appears they censored Gaz's right to engage in that debate with me too.

I reported two disrespectful racist comments I stumbled across on another article, and thankfully they were immediately removed.
People have to remember, because his name hasn't yet officially been revealed, friends and family who are not local and have not been able to speak directly to the family are having to read the news to keep updated.
Try and consider how anything you write may affect these people.
The situation is horrific enough as it is, please be empathic.

ESB & thebuffalo-I thought the "so called jokes" were in very bad taste, including mine, so my apologies. Unfortunately this a forum page & not a debate page. Will look forward to reading your comments on other subjects.
