A man was attacked and robbed as he fixed his bike in the road.

He was approached by another man and threatened as he worked on the black Ridgeback bike in Hartington Road, Brighton.

He was punched several times in the head before having his bike and bag stolen at 8.45pm on Friday(FEB 5).

The man was not seriously hurt but was left shocked by the incident.

The robber was white, in his late teens to early 20s, stocky, with blond, cropped hair and a round face.

He was wearing a grey scarf that was pulled up above his nose to obscure half his face and a dark long-sleeved top.

After stealing the bike, he was seen riding up Hartington Road and into Shanklin Road, Brighton.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery and attack, particularly two women who were in the street at the time, and to anyone who may have seen the stolen bike and bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999, quoting serial reference 1637 of February 5, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
