Second man wanted over Seaford murder

A second man is wanted for questioning over the murder of a Seaford curry house worker.

Detectives from Sussex Police's major crime branch want to question Shahadat Mollah Sohag, also known as Shamim or Shannan, over the death of Ahmed Remon Hayder last Monday (Feb 1).

Mr Hayder was found dead from head injuries in the flat where he lived with his family, who run the Moon of India restaurant, in Sutton Park Road.

His body was found when blood dripped through a ceiling into an office below.

Mr Sohag is 21 years old and believed to be living in London.

He was last seen on Thursday in the Tower Hamlets area.

He is not believed to have any connection with Seaford.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Hibbert, who is leading the investigation, said: "I have issued Shahadat's name and photograph because I believe he is key to this investigation and there is a strong possibility that he may be trying to leave the country.

"He is a Bangladeshi man who arrived in the UK six months ago.

"He has lived and studied in London, and is not known by the victim's family and has no links with Sussex as far as we know. He is described as of medium build and has black short hair and brown eyes.

"We are working closely with our colleagues in London in an effort to trace him. An all ports warning has been issued to stop him leaving the country.

"If anyone recognises him and has information as to where he may be they should contact us. I would warn that no one approaches him but urgently contacts police."

Mr Hayder's cousin, Mohammed Anhar, 33, of Gurdon Road, East London, has been charged with murder and aggravated burglary.

He appeared in court this week accused of arming himself and breaking into the flat while high on drugs, taking jewellery and cash and killing Mr Hayder.

A post-mortem showed Mr Hayder had died from head injuries caused by several different weapons, at least one of which was bladed.

No weapons have so far been found. Forensic searches at the flat are still taking place.

Mr Hayder had been running the restaurant while his father, mother and brother were visiting family in Bangladesh.

His family had to cut their holiday short to fly home and identify his body.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 quoting Operation Scotsford, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
