GRAFFITI is being used across the city to promote a road safety campaign.
The giant pieces, hand-painted by Brighton-based graffiti artist Paul Barlow, also known at Aroe, were commissioned by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) to help “engage” the public.
Neil Hopkins, SSRP communications manager, said: “Working with Aroe allowed the SSRP to bring the Embrace Life campaign out of traditional promotional media and into the true public realm.
“Traditional media is a very valuable part of our work to engage the public and raise awareness of road safety issues.
“However, for this campaign, we wanted to be able to do something a little bit more 'surprising' by using new and unusual spaces around Brighton which is a significant hub for business and visitors in Sussex.”
The safety film, which is central to the campaign, depicts a mother and child symbolically saving their husband and father by wrapping their arms round him and holding him like a seatbelt.
It has been praised for its “positive” approach and away from “blood and guts” shock tactics.
Mr Barlow, 39, of the graffiti group Heavy Artillery Crew, spent ten days painting the campaign logo in nine city spots.
