Reigate Priory 252-7
Malden Wanderers 225-4

Reigate Priory remain the only unbeaten team in the Surrey Championship Premier League with another winning draw in a frustrating game against Malden Wanderers.

Gregor Macmillan's failure to win the toss (only two won in 22 attempts) meant that Priory again found themselves batting first and once again posting a challenging total.

But the Priory bowlers could not get any assistance out of the wicket to take sufficient wickets. And they could not force the victory which would bridge the gap with league leaders Spencer.

The Priory total was built around a fine 83 runs from Simon Ecclestone, with solid contributions from Chris Murtagh and Alex Richards. And Gregor Macmillan and Sairaj Bahutule provided some excitement at the close of the innings with an acceleration of the scoring rate.

A slow over rate from Malden Wanderers always meant that Priory would need to bowl well to force a win on a good batting track. And this proved to be the case, as Malden Wanderers got off to a flying start before Simon Ecclestone contributed with the ball to force a couple of wickets.

Malden's Australian Kelvin Lahey was batted solidly, and despite accurate bowling from Sairaj Bahutule, Priory could not force a breakthrough.

Malden never looked like getting the required total even for the winning draw. But a late flurry of runs, with a century from Lahey, forced Priory on the defensive to protect the winning draw total.

The highlight of the afternoon was a spectacular running catch from Paul Koch to dismiss Malden's Powell. Having sprinted 40 yards, he stuck out a hand to claim the ball just inches from the ground.

On a day when bat dominated ball, Priory felt disappointed by not taking more wickets and forcing the change of momentum for victory.

Priory will look to the next home against local rivals Banstead to change the tide, and reinvigorate their title challenge.

Reigate Priory's seconds remain top of the Premier league after losing this high-scoring affair in the last over of the game.

They remain five points clear of the field and travel to Walton-on-Thames this Saturday.
