Twenty five miles of fast and close racing saw leading local junior rider James Hopkins lose his lead with just metres to go and have to settle for eighth place at the latest Surrey League cycle race, hosted and organised by Redhill Cycling Club.

A tough, six-mile course around Charlwood was the venue for last Thursday's race. Hopkins, a Reigate-based, 16-year-old St Bede's student and fellow club member Jon Masters were among a strong field of 40.
