Saturday morning saw leading junior riders George Roux (15) and James Hopkins (16), both students at St Bede's school, contesting the London South qualifying round of the GHS National Time Trial Championship.

Roux set off at number 11, targeting a time of under 13min. But the wet, 5.12mile course under the South Downs, near Ringmer in East Sussex, and a steady headwind on the long first leg robbed him of valuable time.

But an impressive effort on the easterly run to the finish saw him recover useful seconds to give him a finish time of 13min 12sec and an excellent fifth place out of a field of 16.

Hopkins set out three minutes later and seemed to find conditions easier, though finished only 23 seconds quicker than Roux. His time of 12min 49sec gave him third place overall and an entry in the national finals in September.

Seniors Andre Roux and Jon Masters competed in Normandy on one of the club's regular trips to race in a French Cyclo Sportif event.

Masters finished in the top third of the field. Roux beat his target time of four hours 30min by a margin of 50min.

On Sunday Paul Read and Duncan Murdoch faced a strong field of 80 riders in the SCCU 50-mile time trial. Murdoch came in 15min under his target time. Read showed a record pace, averaging 25.5mph. He shattered his personal best time by over two minutes (with a time of one hour 55min 3sec) and took second place overall. He was a eight seconds behind winner Keith Coffey.
