A large crowd turned out to watch 12-year-old Emily Napier win the ladies' singles title, beating Alison Jones 6-1, 6-0, at Reigate Lawn Tennis Club.

She had come through a tough semi-final against Fiona Brookes earlier in the week, winning in three sets. She is the youngest ever winner of a senior title in the history of the club.

In the men's singles final, Andrew Sharp took the title for the 13th time in a fierce encounter of hard-hitting tennis against Duncan Wardley, 7-5, 6-2.

The first set was keenly contested and saw chances for both players to take the lead.

In the second set the greater experience and determination of Sharp tipped the balance and he came out a worthy winner.

The men's doubles final drew the largest crowd of the day when club coach James Smith, a ranked British player, teamed up with an average club-standard player, Julian Goulding, to take on a top doubles pair, Andy Wishart and Neil Blincow, in the hardest hitting final of the day.

Smith rained down serves regularly at over 130mph. Wishart and Blincow replied with excellent returns.

Julian Goulding coped successfully with the power of the more experienced players. Smith and Goulding just edged the match 6-4, 7-5.

In the ladies doubles final Alison Jones and Fiona Brookes beat Mary Harvey and Maureen Pinnegar 6-2, 6-4.

In the mixed doubles final Tessa and Duncan Wardley beat Maureen Pinnegar and Andrew Sharp, 6-3, 7-5.
