Fire at Brighton seafront hotel

Fire crews are currently tackling a fire at Brighton seafront hotel.

Crews were called to Legends Hotel, in Marine Parade, just before 5pm.

The fire is thought to have started in the hotel kitchen.

The road is believed to be blocked with fire engines and police vehicles.

It is not yet known whether any one has been hurt in the fire.

Eyewitness Phil Robathan said: "There is a lot of smoke coming out of the building.

"It looks like most of the people are out of the building, but the road is blocked off with about five or six fire engines and police cars."

Legends fire, 11th March 2010. Official Comment:

To all our customers:

Sadly Legends Hotel was closed today due to fire.

The fire broke out around 5pm on 11th of March, everyone was evacuated and there were no casualties. The fire brigade arrived quickly and dealt with the situation professionally.

We’d like to reassure everyone that the damage was minimal and was contained in a small area. Contrary to reports; Legends bar, club and our hotel rooms were not damaged. We expect to open the bar very soon and we will keep you informed through this site and Facebook.
If you have booked to stay wth us in the next week, we will be contacting you shortly.

Meanwhile we would like to thank:

ARGUS HAVE IT WRONG... The Legends Hotel/nightclub/bar fire was in a boiler in the basement at the rear.... smoke damage extensive but kitchen not affected by fire.

Hotel has no power, water, heat, gas etc and guests were evacuated to the Amsterdam Hotel close-by.

Hotel remains closed with staff on continual fire watch duties.
