Rustington carer walks free after filmed stealing from dementia patient

A carer who stole from an elderly client has walked free.

Donna Fallon, 36, got a suspended sentence after sneaking into the 92-year-old dementia sufferer’s bedroom and stealing his cash.

She had continued calling at his home even after she stopped working with him.

Police began investigating when the man’s new carer noticed hundreds of pounds were going missing.

Detectives secretly filmed Fallon creeping into the bedroom of his Rustington home to steal money in August.

She admitted two counts of burglary at Worthing Magistrates’ Court.

Fallon, of Bayford Road, Littlehampton, was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, She was also ordered to do 200 hours’ community service and pay £120 in compensation and £120 in costs.

Detective Sergeant John Witt, of Littlehampton CID, said, “I am pleased that we secured a conviction in this case and hope that it sends out the message that we will use a wide range of investigative tactics to identify offenders and hold them to account.

“It was particularly pleasing to achieve this result as the victim was very elderly and the offender had known him and previously worked for him.

“I would urge those who are seeking carers, either for themselves or a family member, to use a reputable company that carries out the necessary checks on its staff.”

Stealing from a dementia sufferer. You can't get much lower down the food chain than that. Despicable woman

Judging by the sentences handed out these days, I am thinking of turning to crime. I think I would get better treatment as a criminal than I get as a pensioner!

There really is no justice here. The thief took hundreds of pounds from this poor old man, but only had to pay him £120 back and £120 costs, presumably to the court service. She'll probably use the 200 hours of community service to further feather her nest!

An immediate custodial sentence would do more good and remove this scumbag from the streets so she can't prey on vulnerable people.

I think that when I am in need of a nursing home I will commit and major crime and let the prison service keep me for nothing rather than pay for nursing care. At least I should not be robbed in prison.

remarkable that the whole police operation to hire/buy cameras and their time to expertly set up, film and dismantle, prepare the case for the court, issue documents, turn up in court and issue a statement can all be done for £120....If i wanted that done my outsourcing costs would be well into 4 figures not a paltry dinner for two sum
