Everything was “all white” for a nature reserve’s newest arrival.
Staff at RSPB Pulborough Brooks were surprised when the first of its seven expected Highland cattle calves was born completely white.
Warden Peter Hughes said: “I’ve seen Highland cattle in most of the usual colours, red, yellow, black and dun, but I had never seen a white one before and even though both parents are blonde, it was a real surprise to get a white calf.”
The calf and its mother are currently out of public view with the other expectant mothers but once all the calves are born and ready, they will rejoin the rest of the herd out on the brooks of the Arun Valley.
RSPB Pulborough Brooks, which is located off the A283 between Pulborough and Storrington, is open every day.
