Royal Sussex plan update

Residents are being invited to a meeting for an update on plans for a multimillion-pound hospital redevelopment.

Managers at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton want to demolish and replace some of its oldest buildings.

Architects will be unveiling their latest designs for the project at the Audrey Emerton building opposite the hospital’s main entrance in Eastern Road on Monday at 7pm.

The project, which would cost up to £400 million, is now with the Department of Health awaiting a decision on funding.

Residents can confirm attendance, suggest topics or add their name to a mailing list by calling 01273 523395 or emailing hospitalredevelopment@ bsuh.nhs.uk.

Do these quangos honestly believe that this money will be available when the country is dead broke. They really do live in cloud cuckoo land. Brown will have to do a lot of overtime printing on his hand job press in his office to cover this one. "Darling, pass me some more ink!"

This hospital should deal with the issues of care before it thinks of grand development plans.

great news. But would it be better to wait until funding has been granted?

Parts of RSCH are about 200 yrs old, medical services have moved on in that time so we need state of the art hospitals, great move !

i said it when the alex was moved to the sussex, surely it would be better if the trust built a new hospital at falmer? near the uni, and sell the sussex off for flats? same as the elm grove one, that is deaths waiting room.

For those of you wondering "what's that 16 storey tower shown on pages 36, 37, 38, 52 and 53" ...

It's the landing pad for helicopters.
