Historic Haywards Heath garden to be mapped out

An award-winning garden has been given a £25,000 grant to carry out a survey of its famous collection of trees and shrubs.

Borde Hill Garden, near Haywards Heath, has been given the money by English Heritage in recognition of the historical importance of the Grade II listed garden’s tree and shrub collection.

A catalogue detailing over 5,000 trees and shrubs and spanning 40 years was completed in 1935 at the garden.

The grant will enable a new catalogue to be completed, using modern technology to map and re-catalogue the collection.

The mapping process will use GPS to pinpoint the location of trees and shrubs.

Am I missing something? What does it achieve?

Surely it doesn't cost £25,000 to go round and count and write down the names of trees and shrubs. An utter waste of money.
