Actor Martin Clunes stripped to the waist on a Sussex beach – but declined to go all the way.

Instead he had a body double for a bare bum scene during BBC filming of a new Reggie Perrin series. Camera crews took over part of Worthing beach just west of Sea Lane Cafe, Goring, for a day's shooting yesterday.

People promenading along the seafront path watched as Martin stood facing the sea shouting: “I know what I have to do.”

He also lay on his back on the shingle before taking off his socks, shoes and shirt and marching towards the Channel.

Martin then stepped to one side as a stand-in stripped naked and walked into the water.

Production staff said the scene took up where the last Reggie Perrin series left off.

They said Martin had been filming on location, mainly around London, for 15 days and was quite tired.

The crew later went to the West Worthing Club, off Titnore Way, West Durrington, to record further footage.
