Sussex cheese factory raid goes wrong

An attempted raid of a former cheese factory was foiled when two burglars were disturbed by police.

The pair fled when spotted by officers at the factory at Twineham Grange Farm, leaving their ford Transit pick up truck behind.

Police were called to the farm in Bob Lane, Twineham, at 10pm on Monday evening. As they arrived, two men ran from the property.

Officers discovered the men had broken into the building and driven the Transit inside before starting to load equipment onto it.

The men are described as 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, both of stocky build and wearing dark trousers and dark grey fleece style tops. One was wearing a chequered shirt, possibly blue.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the white-cabbed truck, registration L961 FKM, in the area before 10pm on Monday to contact 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1843 of 15/03.

Of course, the ANPR system will not work in this case. Because it is a straightforward alleged crime. But it can be used for false anti-terrorist purposes to stop peace activists.

Or for identifying and arresting kidnapping suspects, if today's other story is to be believed. Or did you handily ignore that as it doesn't fit your agenda?

I am astonished that the pun-hungry Argus headline writers did not reach for the phrase about a "holed up".
