Gorillaz play intimate Hove gig

Virtual band the Gorillaz will play an intimate gig in Sussex next week.

The Old Market, Hove, has been chosen as one of only six venues in the country to host the exclusive event.

Tickets have only been made available to members of the Gorillaz fan club – G-Club - and have already sold out.

The gigs are band rehearsals ahead of the group's April headline at US music festival Coachella.

A statement posted on the Gorillaz website said: “Gorillaz will open up rehearsals to audiences around the UK ahead of their headline show at Coachella in April.

“These are band rehearsals only – it will not feature full Gorillaz production. Only subscribers to the Gorillaz fan club (G-Club) are eligible to buy tickets.”

The Clash's Paul Simonon and Mick Jones will join Damon Albarn, who co-created the Gorillaz, to take the rehearsals on the road.

Staff at the Old Market, in Upper Market Street, have known about the gig for a while but were under a strict embargo not to tell anyone.

The venue, which can take a maximum of 500 standing guests, is expected to be at full capacity when the gig takes place next Thursday.

Have you got a ticket? If so we want you to review it for The Argus. Call the newsdesk on 01273 544519 or email news@theargus.co.uk

"...about the gig for a while but were under a strict embargo not to tell anyone..."
Misuse of the word 'embargo' I think.
Definition: "The prohibition by a government or organization that prevents goods from being shipped into or out of a country."
Security word: yeah-boat. You couldn't make it up!

Their washed out electro funk sound is so turn-of-the-century. Plastic Beach should have been called Pedal Bin, because thats where most of the copies will end up.

I'm not a fan of the Gorillaz AT ALL but I am glad that FINALLY a band just makes tickets available to FANS rather than just a random scrabble for tickets when they come on sale, which means that only touts and opportunists get them and flog them on ebay for ten times the price. The Gorillaz have gone up loads in my estimation.

Wasn't this venue bankrupt and closing down last month? What's the story on that?

Embargo, noun: "a restraint or hindrance; prohibition"

Well, I do kind of see where you are coming from...... but a bunch of these "real fans" seem to have their tickets up for sale on gumtree already! At inflated prices of course

Perhaps this is where all The Old Markets money has gone, to pay for this band because it could never have been miss-management could it?
