Former Eastbourne teacher arrested on suspicion of downloading child porn

A former teacher at a prestigious private school has been arrested on suspicion of downloading child porn.

The 61-year-old retired supply teacher previously taught at £18,000 a year St Andrew’s Independent School in Eastbourne.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “A 61 year old man from Eastbourne was arrested on February 11 on suspicion of possession of indecent images of children.”

Police said they could not reveal any more information, such as the man’s profession or the nature of the offences. A spokeswoman for the school said the allegations related to images supposedly downloaded from the internet to his home computer.

She said: “This man had worked in the past at St Andrew’s. He last taught at St Andrews in 2004 and since then his employment has been very intermittent and extremely part time. He has not worked at St Andrew’s since July 2008.

“No images of any children at St Andrew’s were on his computer.”
