Sussex summer motoring extravaganza the Goodwood Festival of Speed will run for four days this year instead of its usual three.
Organiser the Earl of March decided to add what he calls a “moving motor show” to the event which attracts thousands to the grounds of his ancestral home near Chichester.
The extension to the hugely successful motoring festival, taking place for the eighteenth year, will be on Thursday July 1, and will be a curtain raiser for the event which celebrates Italian influence on motor sport with its theme Viva Veloce! The Passion for Speed.
On the first day, new car buyers will be able to attend an exclusive motor show preview day.
As well as seeing the latest car models on display, they will also be able to touch and sit in them.
Throughout the festival, cars will undertake hundreds of runs on a special evaluation route that includes the world famous Goodwood hillclimb, scene of triumphs for celebrated racing drivers including Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Sir Stirling Moss. Announcing his plans, Lord March said the Italian theme celebrates the all-consuming fascination with motor racing, and in particular Italy’s global influence on the sport.
